چکیده

We describe an experiment in which we induce a heat-driven superfluid flow in a straight tube and monitor the phase difference across the tube’s ends with a superfluid He quantum interference device (SHeQUID). We quantitatively verify the relation vs = (h̄/m)5φ. We also demonstrate the linearization of a SHeQUID using the heat injection method. Superfluid is described by a macroscopic wavefunction of the form Ψ = √ ρse iφ, where ρs is the superfluid density and φ is the quantum mechanical phase. Applying a momentum operator (p̂Ψ = −ih̄5Ψ = pΨ) with p = mvs immediately gives [1] the relation

Scale Transformations of Fields and Correlation Functions

The number d φ is called the field dimension of the free field φ(x). Its value (7.4) is a direct consequence of the naive dimensional properties of x and φ. In the units used in this text, in which we have set kBT = 1 [recall the convention stated before Eq. (2.6)], the exponential in the partition function is e, so that E[φ] is a dimensionless quantity. The coordinates have the dimension of a ...

Mesoscopic Quantum Circuit Theory to Persistent Current and Coulomb Blockade

The quantum theory for mesoscopic electric circuit is briefly described. The uncertainty relation for electric charge and current modifies the tranditional Heisenberg uncertainty relation. The mesoscopic ring is regarded as a pure L-design, and the persistent current is obtained explicitly. The Coulomb blockade phenomenon appears when applying to the pure C-design. talk at the Fifth Internation...

On a class of nonlinear fractional Schrödinger-Poisson systems

In this paper, we are concerned with the following fractional Schrödinger-Poisson system:    (−∆s)u + V (x)u + φu = m(x)|u|q−2|u|+ f(x,u), x ∈ Ω, (−∆t)φ = u2, x ∈ Ω, u = φ = 0, x ∈ ∂Ω, where s,t ∈ (0,1], 2t + 4s > 3, 1 < q < 2 and Ω is a bounded smooth domain of R3, and f(x,u) is linearly bounded in u at infinity. Under some assumptions on m, V and f we obtain the existence of non-trivial so...

A Solution to the Polonyi Problem in the Minimum SUSY-GUT

We show that the Polonyi problem is solved in the minimum SUSY-GUT model in which a self-coupling strength for a heavy Higgs Σ, λΣ, is very small λ ∼ 10−6. It is stressed that with this small λ the mass of the physical Σ becomes mΣ ∼ 10GeV and the unification scale is raised up to the gravitational one, M ≃ 2 × 10GeV. A potential problem, however, is also pointed out in this GUT model. (Submitt...
